The Supreme Court of the United States, now with a conservative majority, has announced that it has decided to once again take up a case related to the right to abortion at its next session, which begins in October.

The highest court in the country will have to decide the constitutionality of a law in the state of Mississippi that prohibits most abortions from the 15th week of pregnancy, even in cases of rape or incest.

In question, there is the survival of Roe v.

Wade, this Supreme Court ruling that has guaranteed the right to abortion since 1973 in the United States.

The 50 states can regulate, restrict access to abortion, but not completely prohibit it before the fetal viability period.

More than 500 attempted restrictions since January

Spurred on by conservative movements,

several states are trying to test the limits of this jurisprudence

.

Push the Supreme Court to its limits so that it gives them back the right to decide.

Mississippi law is not an isolated case.

Since the start of the year, more than 500 bills restricting the right to abortion have been tabled in local congresses, notably in the southern and midwestern states.

A Supreme Court dominated by conservatives

Their objective: that these laws be blocked at first instance, then on appeal.

Let these cases therefore go up the whole pyramid of courts to the highest jurisdiction in the country which will have to decide on their constitutionality.

So far, the Supreme Court has protected its landmark 1973 ruling

.

But its composition has changed with the three judges appointed by Donald Trump during his tenure.

The conservatives could now have a majority to restrict the right to abortion.
