The alarms about a raging truck on the E20 in May 2019 came to the police and a major rescue operation started.

The truck driver claimed during the alarm call that nothing happened when he tried to use the brake pedal or the parking brake.

A total of 38 police resources worked, including a police helicopter working to pave a clear path for the truck and obstruct other traffic.

A police officer who took part in the operation describes the incident as "exceptional".

But when the truck finally stopped and was examined by technicians, it was found that all systems worked without a hitch.

The convicted man tells the district court that he thinks it is "very strange" that no faults were found on the truck afterwards.

Alarmed several times

Accident history of the convicted man shows that on several occasions he reported faults on the truck, but on all occasions no faults were found to be noticed.

At one point, the man alerted about fire in the front of the truck, but when examined, there were no signs of fire.

Cost for the police: 90,000

The district court rules the false alarm as a serious crime, but takes into account the size of the police effort that the false alarm resulted in. The costs for Police Region West are estimated at more than SEK 90,000.

The man is also convicted of speeding.

The district court's assessment is thus that the penalty should be determined to a suspended sentence with community service 160 hours.

The alternative sentence is set at six months' imprisonment.
