According to the Swedish Transport Administration, speed has a major impact on road safety.

If you collide at 80 km / h instead of 90 km / h, the risk of death is reduced by 40 percent, while the travel time is only extended by a maximum of 50 seconds per mile.

- This is about saving more lives.

The right speed for how the road is actually designed is necessary to further reduce the number of killed and injured in traffic, says Kristina Johansson at the Swedish Transport Administration in a press release.

Wants to slow down seven out of eight distances

Now in May, the proposal goes out for consultation to, among others, the municipalities, regions and the police concerned. The Swedish Transport Administration wants to reduce the speed on seven of the eight sections through Småland, which they are investigating in the spring. On road 25 between Boasjö and Annestad, they want to increase the speed from 90 km / h to 100 km / h.
