According to the Swedish Transport Administration, center railings are needed if the speed is to be higher than 80 km.

"Reduced speeds are an effective and temporary measure to reduce the risk of traffic until we have the opportunity to build the center railings," writes the Swedish Transport Administration's unit manager Helena Werre in a press release.

The proposal means that the speed on the 90-lines between Järpen and Krokom will be reduced to 80 and that the 100-lines between Gällö and Sundsvall will also have 80 as the new maximum speed.

The proposal will now be submitted for consultation to the municipalities and regions, then the Swedish Transport Administration's director general will make a decision and the plan is for the new speed limits to take effect in December.

As recently as December 2020, the speed was reduced on several sections along the E45 through the county.
