Weimar / Vilnius (dpa / th) - The Thuringian accordion student Marius Staible won first prize at the international accordion competition in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius.

The 23-year-old Staible was honored for his arrangements of classical piano literature by Johann Sebastian Bach, Domenico Scarlatti and Robert Schumann, as the Liszt School of Music Weimar announced on Wednesday.

The accordionist recorded his competition videos with the help of the professional sound and video studio of the Weimar University of Music.

Her student deserves the award, said Weimar accordion professor Claudia Buder.

"I appreciate his artistic authenticity and his willingness to go all out."

The success of the competition is particularly valuable, as 15 well-known personalities from the classical accordion scene from 12 nations were represented.

The prize from Vilnius is not the first for Staible to come from Halle an der Saale.

Among other things, he has been awarded a “Jugend Musiziert” prize and the German Accordion Music Prize.

He has been studying at the Weimar University of Music since 2016.
