Hanover (dpa / lni) - Lower Saxony's Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD) has agreed to change the vaccination strategy in view of the indications that the first vaccination against the coronavirus already offers good protection.

"I am also open to deviating from the previous vaccination schedule for the less at risk people and initially giving the first vaccination to as many people as possible," said the SPD politician of the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" (Friday edition).

Lower Saxony had for a long time strictly withheld doses for the second vaccination due to a lack of confidence in the reliability of the vaccine deliveries.

In the debate about opening perspectives, Weil relies on a combination of tests, vaccinations and hygiene concepts.

"Affected people would either have to be vaccinated or be able to prove a current negative test result," said Weil.

A digital proof is also useful.

“My favorite idea is to use the central Corona warning app for vaccination records and test results.

The app would then become really relevant for the first time. "

He doesn't want to blame anyone, but the overall result of the app is “very unsatisfactory to say the least”.
