Potsdam (dpa / bb) - It could be an important judgment for the Brandenburg gastronomy: The Potsdam regional court wants to decide today on the complaint of a restaurateur against the state for compensation for the corona-related closure of his business.

The operator of the hotel and restaurant Schloss Diedersdorf (Teltow-Fläming) had to cease operations almost completely due to the containment ordinance - like all businesses in the hospitality industry, only the sale of meals outside the home and limited operation of the hotel were possible.

As a result, the restaurateur, after deducting any emergency aid, suffered around 350,000 euros in damage in just six weeks of the closure from March 22nd to the beginning of May.

He is now claiming this period because the Infection Protection Act provides for compensation.

The man's lawyer is of the opinion that his client should receive compensation for the closure, as he is considered a so-called contagious suspect.

"It cannot be that those who bring a corona case into the business are compensated by law, but my client, who like many other restaurateurs has closed his business to protect against the spread of the virus, is left empty-handed," he said Potsdam lawyer Thorsten Purps.

The court has been negotiating the case since the end of January.

Although the judgment only works between the parties involved, the decision could have a precedent effect.
