Netflix exceeds 200 million paying subscribers worldwide

The pandemic and the resulting lockdowns locked people in their homes for part of 2020. Result: at home, between telecommuting and managing children, it was necessary to take care of and many chose the TV option.

Last year, Netflix, the leader in video streaming platforms, exceeded 200 million subscribers worldwide, nearly 204 million to be precise in 2020. A figure that immediately appealed to the markets since Netflix's share has surged more than 10% on Wall Street Tuesday when the market closed.

Record subscriptions despite fierce competition from other streaming players such as HBO Max, Apple TV + and especially Disney +.

Netflix has 37 million new users for the past year, including 8.5 million in the fourth quarter in the United States, its main market, but also around the world.

It consolidates a profit of 540 million dollars in the fourth quarter. 

In two years, the number of subscribers has almost doubled, going from 111 million at the start of 2018 to more than 203 million so at the end of 2020. The price of subscriptions, set at around 10 dollars a month in 2018, has also climbed a little over 'a dollar despite competition from other free or cheaper streaming sites like Disney +.

But he does not intend to stop there.

It plans to release up to 70 star-studded films this year and hopes to gain 6 million new subscribers.
