During a meeting with citizens of the Climate Convention, French President Emmanuel Macron announced, Monday, December 14, that a referendum would be organized to integrate climate defense and environmental preservation into the French Constitution , if this reform were adopted by Parliament.

"It will be a constitutional reform in an article" which "must first go through the National Assembly and then the Senate and be voted on in identical terms. On that day, it will be submitted to a referendum," said the head of the State at the conclusion of a meeting with the Citizen's Convention for the Climate.

The reform relates to the introduction, in article 1 of the Constitution, of the concepts of "biodiversity, the environment, the fight against global warming".

The proposal will be sent at the same time as the law resulting from the proposals of the Citizens' Climate Convention, which should be examined by the Council of Ministers at the end of January.
