Leverkusen (AP) - Bayer Leverkusen set a German goal record in the football Europa League on Thursday.

Leon Bailey's early 1-0 win (8th) in the last preliminary round match against Slavia Prague was Bayer's 18th goal in this group stage.

Werder Bremen (2009/10) and Eintracht Frankfurt (2018/19) had held the previous German preliminary round record of the Bundesliga clubs with 17 goals each.

For the international record, Leverkusen would need a few more goals against Prague.

The record of SSC Napoli from the 2015/16 season is 22 preliminary round hits.
