US President Donald Trump announced yesterday that the Kingdom of Morocco and Israel have agreed to establish full diplomatic relations with US mediation.

Trump said in a tweet on his official Twitter account: "Another historic day ... our two great friends, Israel and the Kingdom of Morocco, agreed to establish full diplomatic relations."

"I signed (yesterday) a declaration recognizing Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara," he added.

Morocco's serious and realistic proposal for self-government is the only basis for a just and lasting solution to achieve lasting peace and prosperity.

A senior US official said that Trump reached the agreement in a phone call yesterday with the Moroccan Monarch, King Mohammed VI.

"The two parties will immediately reopen the liaison offices in Rabat and Tel Aviv, with the intention of opening two embassies," the senior White House adviser, Jared Kushner, told Reuters.

The two parties will enhance economic cooperation between Israeli and Moroccan companies.

He added, “The US administration (yesterday) made another historic step.

President Trump concluded a peace agreement between Morocco and Israel, the fourth agreement of its kind between Israel and an Arab country within four months. ”

For his part, King Mohammed VI said, during a phone call with Trump: "The resumption of official bilateral contacts and diplomatic relations as soon as possible" with Israel, according to a statement issued by the royal court.

The Moroccan monarch expressed his thanks to Trump for his recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara, considering it a "historic position" and "frank and absolute support."

In a televised speech, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed the agreement, describing it as "historic", indicating that "direct flights" would soon take place between the two countries, and "thanking" the Moroccan monarch for the "warm relationship" between the two countries.

The two parties will immediately reopen the liaison offices in Rabat and Tel Aviv.
