Ronny Frick is head of unit for clinical microbiology.

He says that there is full activity in the laboratory in the hospital area in Lund.

- The staff has made an extreme effort and they work very well, says Ronny Frick.

Here are all the corona tests taken at hospitals, health centers, nursing homes and sampling stations for health care workers.

The self-tests that the people of Skåne have taken, on the other hand, are sent to Linköping.

Students work extra

To cope with the accumulation of samples of suspected corona to be analyzed, 20 people have been hired extra, including medical students.

The collected sampling sticks must not be left for too long in the test tubes they enter, because then the result may be less reliable.

Therefore, staff have worked late into the night to transfer the sample material.

- Unfortunately, it is overtime every night, says Ronny Frick.

A large part of the work involves unpacking and registering the submitted samples.

Miss the goal

Region Skåne currently does not meet the goal of a test response within 24 hours - it can take up to three days when it comes to infection tracing tests, says Ronny Frick.

Last week, 15,000 samples were received, and Ronny Frick reckons that the number will increase in the future.

- Christmas is coming soon and everyone will start meeting so we expect to last the whole spring in any case, he says.

The maximum capacity for the laboratory is actually 9,500 samples per week.

On Thursday, Region Skåne announced that 200,000 rapid tests had been purchased.

Ronny Frick does not believe that this will affect the workload in the laboratory to any great extent.

- We will probably be above our maximum capacity anyway, he says.
