Xinhua News Agency, Belgrade, August 30 (Reporter Shi Zhongyu) Podgorica News: The Republic of Montenegro will hold parliamentary elections on the 30th. 11 parties and a coalition of parties will compete for 81 seats in the parliament.

Voting will be held from 7 am to 20 am local time on the 30th. Data from the National Election Commission of Montenegro shows that about 540,000 registered voters across the country will vote in 1,217 polling stations. The preliminary results of the election will be announced later in the day.

Due to the new crown epidemic, all voters must wear masks when they go to polling stations and disinfect them in advance, and voters must keep a certain distance.

Recent polls show that the Democratic Party of Socialists of Montenegro led by the current President Djukanovic has the highest support rate at 35.3%; the opposition party alliance "for the future of Montenegro" and "peace is our country" has the highest support rate. Thereafter, they were 24.7% and 16.5% respectively.

According to Montenegrin law, ethnic minority parties or party alliances must obtain 0.7% of the total votes, and other parties or party alliances must obtain 3% of the votes to enter Parliament. Any party or party alliance must obtain more than half of the seats in the parliament to form a government independently. Otherwise, multiple parties or party alliances will jointly form a cabinet.

Montenegro’s parliamentary elections are held every four years. The current parliament was elected in 2016. The Socialist Democratic Party of Montenegro has 36 seats out of 81 seats in the parliament, making it the largest party in the parliament. However, since it won less than half of the seats, it formed a ruling coalition with the Social Democratic Party.
