Iran has not stopped its attempts to expand inside Syria despite the strong American opposition to this matter, and it has worked during the years of the Syrian revolution to consolidate its presence politically, militarily, economically and even culturally, as it controlled important joints in Syria and worked on an alarming agenda for both Washington and Tel Aviv according to their statements Repeated about the Iranian presence in Syria.

And it finally came to Tehran, when it signed a new agreement with the Syrian regime on comprehensive military cooperation, one of its provisions to develop Syrian air defense systems.

The patterns of the new agreement between the Syrian regime and Iran uncovered many questions, and revealed part of Tehran's insistence to remain inside the Syrian territories. The military and strategic expert Abdel Nasser Al-Ayed confirmed during his conversation with Al-Jazeera Net that the agreement in terms of form does not differ from the status quo on the ground, but it is proven It remains in Syria.

Al-Ayed said that talk of a Russian-Iranian divergence had become certain after this agreement, which allows Iran to deploy air defenses in Syria, and it was Russia's work, meaning that Tehran will not depend on Moscow in this framework.

Al-Ayed added that Iran is trying to establish its presence in Syria through documented sovereign agreements as Russia has done in order to take legitimacy for its presence in order to turn into military bases, and not only through technical support and pro-militia that have been fighting alongside the Syrian regime for years.

Fate of the agreements

The last military agreement between Tehran and Damascus was not the first between them. Rather, it came after a series of agreements on the military, economic, and cultural levels that took place during the years of the Syrian revolution. Therefore, it was not clear from the opposition’s opinion about it and whether its continuation within the framework of a political solution was possible.

On this matter, a spokesman for the Syrian opposition negotiating body, Yahya Al-Aridi, said during his conversation with Al-Jazeera Net that the opposition that carries the voice of the Syrian people cannot harmonize with Iran, describing it as the bloody state and the most ugly face of the Syrian regime.

Al-Aridi described the agreements as a manifestation by the regime of adherence to what no one wanted and an attempt to save the regime by those in need of rescue, in reference to Iran.

Al-Aridi assured Al-Jazeera Net that the regime has nothing to lose and is trying to survive even for a few days through these agreements, especially as Iran is always trying to strengthen its ideological presence in Syria in order to continue the occupation process as described.

Russia and Iran

The new agreement coincides with events and field developments inside the areas controlled by the Syrian regime, highlighting the size of the Iranian-Russian disparity to the point of signs of disagreement and divergence.

In this regard, the commander of the eighth brigade in the Fifth Corps of the Moscow-administered regime announced his intention to form a united army in Houran to counter Iran's influence.

This came after the bombing of a bus for his forces while coming from the Russian Hmeimim base in Latakia, and pointing fingers at the fourth division that is backed by Iran, so the new military agreement shows the regime's rapprochement with Iran at the expense of Russia, especially after the official Syrian media affiliated with the regime attacked the loyal factions Russia, led by the eighth major general, south of the country

In a similar move, a few days ago, Russian forces took control of the Al-Ward oil field in Deir Ezzor, after taking out Iranian militias from it, according to local sources.

The most prominent reason for this divergence is Moscow’s desire to implement its promises to Tel Aviv when the settlement agreement was concluded between Russia and the opposition in the south of the country, and Moscow then pledged to deport pro-Iranian militias more than 80 km from the borders with the occupied Syrian Golan, and this did not happen, and Iranian attempts to strengthen its presence appeared In the southern region.
