The Libyan Al-Wefaq government announced on Saturday that it had destroyed the Russian air defense system "Pantzir" upon its arrival at the Al-Wattia air base, in which soldiers and officers of retired general Khalifa Hifter are holed up.

"Our heroic forces succeed in destroying the Russian air defense system with a sneaker a little while ago, as soon as they arrive at the Al-Wattia air base," said the media center of the government's Operation Volcano Anger.

Activists close to Haftar reported on social media pages pictures of the Russian air defense system's arrival at the Al-Wataya air base.

Since the beginning of May this year, the Libyan government air force has launched 57 raids targeting Haftar's concentrations at Al-Wattia base, according to data published by Operation Berkane Fury.

And at the end of last April, the Libyan government considered that al-Watiyah was the most dangerous rule that Haftar used in his attack on the capital.

It is noteworthy that Watiyah is the last important military position owned by Haftar forces in the region from west Tripoli to the Tunisian border, and if it is not controlled by government forces, it will always pose a strong threat to the cities of the West Coast.

For its part, Haftar forces shelled residential neighborhoods south of the Libyan capital, Tripoli, according to a medical official.

Osama Ali Ali, a spokesman for the Ambulance and Emergency Authority in Tripoli, said that the Farnaj area, south of Tripoli, witnessed a large number of missiles fired by Haftar forces.

In the same context, the head of the Al-Wefaq government, Fayez al-Sarraj, said that the NATO chief expressed NATO concern about the fighting of Russian Wagner mercenaries with Haftar's forces.

 An Emirati Bridge
Earlier, the US Bloomberg Agency revealed that the UAE is involved in operating a secret air bridge to supply the forces of retired Major General Khalifa Haftar with weapons, in violation of the United Nations arms embargo on Libya.

The agency added, quoting two diplomatic sources familiar with the contents of a secret UN report in this regard, that the United Nations team of experts in charge of monitoring sanctions and arms embargoes on Libya is investigating about 37 flights that the Emirates visited in January.

Bloomberg clarified that the confidential report submitted to the Security Council indicates that these trips were operated by a complex network of companies registered in the UAE, Kazakhstan and the British Virgin Islands, to conceal the delivery of military equipment to Haftar in Libya.

Since April 4, 2019, Haftar's forces have launched an offensive to take control of the capital, Tripoli, where the internationally recognized Al-Wefaq government is located.
