, the Football League announced on Tuesday.

"The Assembly of the Lega Serie A met this morning and confirmed, by a unanimous vote of the 20 clubs assembled by videoconference, its intention to complete the 2019-2020 sports season", the League wrote in a press release .

In recent weeks, several club leaders, including the presidents of Torino (Urbano Cairo) and Brescia (Massimo Cellino), had said they were opposed to a return to the field.

The League specifies that the resumption of the championship can only be effective "if the government authorizes the unfolding, in full respect of the standards of health and safety protection".

Wednesday, the Italian football federation must present to the Minister of Sports Vincenzo Spadafora the medical protocol established to allow the resumption of the competition.

It predicts that players could start training again, in small groups and under strict medical supervision, from May 4, the date on which the government plans to start relaxing the containment measures imposed in Italy since March 10. .

The hypothesis would then be to resume matches at the very end of May or the beginning of June.

The League also adds that any recovery would be "in accordance with the indications given by Fifa, UEFA and the Italian Federation (FIGC)".

Monday evening, Minister Spadafora had declared that he "did not give for some neither the resumption of the championship, nor that of the trainings on May 4".

The president of the federation Gabriele Gravina had said on his side Friday that those who opposed a resumption of the season liked "neither football, nor the Italians".

Italy has recorded more than 24,000 deaths from Covid-19.
