A private school in Fujairah received about 7,000 requests from its students to postpone and deduct the school fees, because their salaries and jobs were negatively affected by the Corona pandemic (Covid-19).

Aisha Salem, an administrator at the school, said that the administration has received about 7,000 applications for those with more than 10,000 students to obtain a package of facilities for families affected by the Corona virus crisis.

She emphasized that the school provided facilities to help groups that were directly affected by the virus outbreak by separating the breadwinner from work, reducing his salary or placing him on unpaid leave. She also stressed that the administration will develop a plan that suits these groups so that it can pay its financial obligations towards the school without any negative impact on the standard of living of its families.

She said that the school administration received thousands of e-mails from the students ’families after informing them of the necessity of paying the tuition fees, in which they confirmed that they were affected by the Corona pandemic, and a number of them said that they are currently on unpaid leave, which prevented them from getting their salaries.

Private schools have informed their students via e-mail that they will be given a special discount on the total fees during the third semester of the current academic year, after applying the "distance learning" system, for parents whose Corona crisis affected their monthly salaries, after submitting the official documents that prove this.

Deferment of fees

A private school in Fujairah stated that it did not offer cuts to families affected by the Corona virus, but rather postponed the payment of fees late in the school year.

An administrative employee of the school - who refused to mention her name - stated that the school’s decision to postpone the fees came in the interest of the teacher and the educational staff, because it needed fees to pay the salaries of teachers and workers there.

The school provided facilities for those of its students affected by the virus outbreak.

Students' families said they are on unpaid leave at the moment.
