The World Health Organization (WHO) estimated on Monday, April 13, that the development of a "safe and effective" vaccine was necessary to completely stop the transmission of Covid-19, which made nearly 115,000 dead in the world.

"The era of globalization means that the risk of reintroduction and resurgence of Covid-19 will continue. Ultimately, the development and distribution of a safe and effective vaccine will be necessary to completely interrupt transmission", said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus during a virtual press conference organized from Geneva, where the organization is headquartered.

Pending the development of this vaccine, WHO calls for a "slow" deconfinement to avoid the spread of this coronavirus, ten times more deadly than the virus responsible for influenza A (H1N1), which appeared in late March 2009 in Mexico.

"Data from several countries gives us a clearer picture of this virus, how it behaves, how to stop it. We know that Covid-19 is spreading quickly and we know it is fatal: ten times more than the virus responsible for the 2009 flu pandemic, "said the head of the WHO.
