On March 17, the Swedish Tax Agency opened the gates for this year's declaration. During the first day, more than 765,000 Swedes submitted their declaration - a record figure, according to Johan Schauman, declaration expert.

- Almost ten percent of those who will declare this year did the first day.

From the Swedish Tax Agency, one cannot see that the record would be due to the fact that many now work at home or are in quarantine due to the corona virus.

Corona does not seem to affect

- The number declaring the first day has increased every year. And this year's increase does not stand out so much that one can draw some conclusions that it was due to corona. But it is positive that so many remember to declare despite everything happening in the world right now, says Johan Schauman.

The coronavirus does not seem to affect private declarations significantly - yet. But if one falls ill and has not yet submitted his declaration when the last date, May 4, is approaching, you may need to take action.

- Then you may have to apply for a deferral. Then you have two weeks to declare. This applies, among other things, to illness and then it applies to all diseases, not just corona. But the best tip is to declare as early as possible if you have been able to check your information and do not have anything to add.

Changes for companies

At the same time, the Swedish Tax Agency is working feverishly to adapt to the reality that many crisis-ridden companies are now living as a result of the corona virus. With new information from the government on crisis packages and legislative changes, the authority must ensure that their tools are updated as they change.

- For example, companies should be able to pay their taxes later. Then we have to have a flexible solution for that, says the Swedish Tax Agency's tax expert.

He also wants to emphasize that the corona virus has not affected the authority's work now in declaration times.

Tax refund in April

- It is important to point out that the work rolls out for us and that you can declare as usual, says Johan Schauman.

And if you want to get your tax refund in April, it can soon be days. Then you have to declare before March 31.
