Gérald Darmanin in 2015 - M.Libert / 20Minutes

Elected in an armchair. This Sunday evening, the list led by Gérald Darmanin, Minister of Action and Public Accounts, came largely in the lead during the municipal election in Tourcoing. With more than 60% of the vote, there will therefore be no need for a second round.

Gérald Darmanin intended to recover the mayor's chair he had left to enter government. It is now done, and with the way since, unlike the 2014 election, he did not even need a second round. Despite its 60%, the former and future mayor of Tourcoing tempers: "We must remain modest because abstention is high," he told our colleagues from France 3.

Mayor and minister at the same time?

But is it ready to settle permanently in the North? Not easy. Indeed, Gérald Darmanin confirmed that he was going to run for mayor at the next municipal council. However, he also added: “I would be very happy to continue my national and local action. And this is not legally incompatible because the law of non-cumulation of mandates only concerns parliamentary mandates, as senator or deputy or MEP, and not those of member of the government. It remains for Gérald Darmanin to obtain the green light from the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron.
