Al-Jazeera correspondent in Istanbul stated that the Turkish coast guard forces recovered 11 bodies of refugees - including 8 children - while trying to infiltrate light boats from Turkey to Greece off the city of "Gishmeh" in Izmir province, western Turkey.

The boat sank in the Aegean Sea off the tourist town of "Gishme", located off the Greek island of Chios. The nationality of the victims is not yet known.

This comes a few hours after another boat sank in the Ionian Sea near the Greek island of Pakse, in which 12 people died.

It is noteworthy that Turkey hosts about four million immigrants and refugees, most of whom are Syrians, and it is a major transit point for those fleeing conflicts and those seeking to reach Europe, especially through Greece.

It is noteworthy that in March 2016, Ankara and the European Union signed an agreement to limit the flow of migrants across the Aegean Sea.
