The Director General of the Board of Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority, Matar Mohammed Al Tayer, revealed the intention of the authority to experiment with the use of drones (drone) in the work of inspecting and inspecting the Dubai Metro tunnels on the red and green lines, which are about 14 km long, to verify the status of the assets And the ability to search them accurately and quickly, stressing that the initiative contributes to reducing the time spent in the process of inspection of tunnels, ease of access to difficult places, and high accuracy in determining the state of the tunnels.

This came during Al Tayer’s visit to the Dubai Metro garage in Al Rashidiya, in the presence of the CEO of the Railways Corporation, Abdul Mohsen Ibrahim Younis, and a number of departments managers and engineers.

Al-Tayer said, "This initiative comes in line with Dubai strategy 2021 (Smart Dubai), and includes the use of (Drones) dedicated to this process and equipped with several cameras, to monitor the status of tunnels using a high-resolution camera, and to monitor the tunnel walls using infrared technology." The technology provides immediate reports on the status of assets, maintenance and the quality of registered defects. It is linked to the Authority's maintenance management system, and it also provides a digital (paperless) platform for inspection work, which reduces human errors in such work.

During the visit, he reviewed the initiatives and development projects implemented by the Foundation, to raise the efficiency of operation and maintenance of the Dubai Metro, such as the experimental use of (nanotechnology) at the Noor Bank station, as it contributed to reducing the cost of external cleaning of the station by 35%, and reducing the periodicity of cleaning and maintenance, as well as protection Facades and surfaces of stations and trains, enhancing surface resistance to scratching, adhesion and self-cleaning, as well as enhancing thermal insulation properties.

Al Tayer listened to an explanation about digital development in the Dubai Metro, and includes the use of smart screens in metro cars, which provide instructions and changing information for passengers, and display advertisements automatically, as well as automatic tariff gates that are characterized by the use of advanced technology that contributes to improving the rate of passenger flow, and the development of security factors And safety, also includes the use of giant displays on the dock station 80 meters long.

And see the Smart Warehouse initiative in Dubai Metro warehouses, as the authority is the first government agency to implement the smart storage system in warehouses, and the initiative’s application contributed to increasing the capacity of storage sites by 700%, and raising operational efficiency by 50%.
