The mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo. RFI / Edmond Sadaka

No one doubted it, but it is now official. Anne Hidalgo is a candidate for a second term as mayor of Paris. At 60, the mayor of the French capital benefits from the division of opponents, and heads for ecology.

More bikes, fewer cars, Anne Hidalgo persists and signs. His first step: making Paris a 100% cycling city. New bike paths, parking spaces removed, the center of Paris will be pedestrianized, traffic will be limited. Anne Hidalgo promises two new parks, vegetable gardens and urban forests.

An all green program, in a city where the environmental list made a splash in the last European elections. Anne Hidalgo says that Paris is her priority, and to those who think she wants to use it as a springboard for the presidential election of 2022, she assures that she will not be a candidate.

Criticized during her mandate, Anne Hidalgo nevertheless approached racing in pole position. It benefits for the moment from the scattering of its opponents. The dissident candidacy of Cédric Villani in the macronist camp does its job.
But Paris is a complicated election and the alliances of the second round are far from predictable. Nothing is yet played for the one who is in power in Paris as first deputy then as mayor for almost 19 years.
