On the eve of a long-awaited press conference by Carlos Ghosn, his lawyers took the lead to contest Nissan's statements. They rejected, Tuesday, January 7, the conduct and conclusions of the internal investigation conducted by the Japanese group against their client.

The automaker said in a statement on Tuesday that its "solid and careful" internal investigation had uncovered a significant number of serious faults committed by Carlos Ghosn at the head of Nissan.

An assertion that the lawyers of the ex-motor tycoon dismiss, believing that this investigation is a "gross distortion of the truth", in a press release published by the communication agency Image7. "The facts show that this investigation was never aimed at discovering the truth; it was launched and undertaken with the specific and predetermined aim of removing Carlos Ghosn", they say, adding that Nissan never took worth questioning their client.

According to them, this investigation was first aimed at preventing Carlos Ghosn from further integrating Renault and Nissan, which threatened the independence of Nissan.

Press conference expected on Wednesday

In its statement, the Japanese manufacturer ensures that "there is irrefutable evidence of various reprehensible acts" on the part of Carlos Ghosn, in particular "inaccurate statements on his remuneration and a misappropriation of the company's assets for his personal profit". He adds that he will continue to take appropriate legal measures to hold his former boss accountable for the harm he caused to Nissan.

Carlos Ghosn, who fled to Lebanon last week, plans to speak to the press on Wednesday. He should take this opportunity to clarify the grievances he has already expressed against Nissan since his arrest in November 2018. "He will explain himself, bring the truth out. Not for a second, I doubted my husband, victim of an industrial plot and the war between Renault and Nissan ", defends his wife Carole Ghosn, questioned by Le Parisien.
