Three minors were placed in police custody this Friday after the assault of a young man in Charleville-Mézières (Ardennes), filmed and broadcast on social networks, we learned from the prosecutor.

The victim, who complained to the police station, suffered "a traumatic and psychological shock" and was prescribed two days of ITT. Thanks to "collaboration between the municipal and national police" and "surveillance cameras", five young people were arrested Friday morning as part of a blatant investigation.

Towards an indictment this weekend

Thursday at around 6 pm, in a downtown street, a group of five attacked the victim, aged "in his twenties" and placed under guardianship because of "a frailty psychological ”, declared the prosecutor of the Republic of Charleville-Mézières, Laurent de Caigny. "Two of them hit him while a third was filming the scene", widely distributed on social networks and quickly reported to the Platform for harmonization, analysis, cross-checking and referral of reports (Pharos ), he added.

Three of them, aged 13 to 16 and unknown to the justice system, were placed in police custody and were still interviewed on Friday evening. "They recognized their participation in the facts," said Mr. de Caigny, deeming this act "ignominious", "especially since the very wide dissemination by Twitter has further weakened the victim." "They will be presented to a judge over the weekend for an indictment" for intentional violence committed in a meeting against a vulnerable person and for placement under judicial supervision, he added. The law does not allow them to be placed in pre-trial detention, but they risk up to two and a half and three and a half years in prison.

The investigation should in particular determine the motive of the attackers and the circumstances of the meeting with the victim.
