The Montpellier police discovered weapons and ammunition during a car check during the night from Wednesday to Thursday.

According to our information, the three occupants of the vehicle were taken into police custody.

The Hérault police services seized, during the night from Wednesday to Thursday, weapons and ammunition during a road check, in the south of Montpellier, Europe 1 learned. The vehicle, occupied by a man and two women, was driving at high speed when the police intercepted the car.

Three people taken into custody

Inspection of the trunk led to the discovery of an automatic weapon magazine, as well as the presence of a plastic bag containing spare parts for a Kalashnikov, an assault rifle considered a weapon of war.

The occupants were driving from Marseille.

The passenger in the vehicle explained to the police that he had to deliver this arsenal to the city of Montpellier.

He and the two women in the vehicle were taken into custody.

According to their initial statements, the suspects indicated that they did not know the final use of the weapons transported.
