The demonstrations returned to the Algerian cities on Friday 46 for the movement and the first in the new year, to declare their adherence to the demands of the popular uprising that started more than 10 months ago, namely the necessity of radically changing the political system in the country.

Thousands in several cities such as the capital, Oran (west), Constantine (east), Tizi-Ouzou (center), took to the streets and squares, as was customary after Friday prayers, to announce the continuation of the popular movement, which is nearing the completion of its first year on February 22 next.

These are the first demonstrations in the new year 2020, and despite the major developments that the country has witnessed in recent weeks and months, the demands and slogans raised are still the same.

The demonstrators raised slogans calling for a radical change of the regime, such as "hand over power to the people", "yes to the release of Algeria", and "no return until we complete the project." Protesters also demanded the release of detainees during the movement.

The new president had the largest share of the hostile chanting, such as "Taboon brought by the military by fraud", while none of the other candidates condemned the occurrence of fraud in elections that witnessed the participation rate is the weakest compared to the previous presidential elections.

After about three hours of chanting and chanting slogans opposed to the authority, the protesters quietly dispersed under police supervision, which never interfered throughout the day.

Two weeks after assuming his duties, President Abdel Majid Taboun on Thursday evening appointed members of his first government, which included 39 members headed by Abdel Aziz Jarad.

The government did not include the position of Deputy Minister of Defense, which was occupied by Qaid Saleh, noting that the portfolio of the Minister of Defense was held by the President of the Republic.

The group did not convince the demonstrators, especially since one third of the ministers (11 of 28 ministers) had previously assumed ministerial portfolios in one or more of the governments of former President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, who had ruled the country for 20 years.

The demonstrator told Mohand Arzaki, 55, that this government is "unacceptable and illegitimate, just like the president who appointed it ... It is even an extension of the era of Abdelaziz Bouteflika," the former president who resigned last April under street pressure.

President Taboun presented the "dialogue" to the Harak in his first speech after winning the presidential elections.

And stipulated many aspects of the protest movement, which has no formal structure and calls for regime change, including several conditions, including the release of "political prisoners and prisoners of conscience."

Surprisingly, on Thursday, the Algerian judiciary released 76 activists in the protest movement, including Lakhdar Bouraka, a symbol of independence and the Algerian liberation revolution from French colonialism, pending his trial on March 12, 2020.
