A policeman lost his life after an attack on Saturday evening December 28, near the artisanal gold panning site of Komabangou, located 160 km west of Niamey, in the heart of the Niger Gourma region in the grip of insecurity.

The local police station was targeted by unidentified assailants, who were able to flee towards the Burkina border. The attack took place around 10 p.m., reports Moussa Mossi Djibo, the prefect of the department of Gothèye, who went there on Sunday.

The post was attacked at the level of the village of Komabangou, created for the search for gold. So, to manage the small conflicts that can arise, the department of Téra created a police station. It was this post that was attacked by unidentified elements , ”explains the prefect.

" In the reaction of the police to defend their premises, there was unfortunately a loss of human life," deplores Moussa Mossi Djibo. They lost one of them after causing great harm to the enemy. [The attackers] left with everything they found as motorbikes. And they torched the vehicle which serves as a relay for the police to carry out their operations. They seek to weaken us. But we are more determined than ever . "
