Members of the Ras Al Khaimah Police Sports Team, which participated in the annual firefighting championship that concluded, yesterday, the Al-Qawasim Corniche, launched an initiative to honor their teammate, First Lieutenant Sheikh Saqr bin Tariq bin Kayed Al Qasimi, who died on November 30 , As a result of a motorcycle accident, in which the team wore T-shirts bearing the image of their late colleague, in commemoration of his memory, and determined to fulfill his wish to win the tournament, which lasted for three days.

The team won the second place, while the Civil Defense Department in Ras Al-Khaimah won the first place, after nine teams competed and qualified for the final stage.

The coach, First Assistant in the Civil Defense Department in Ras Al Khaimah, Adel Al Shehhi, told «Emirates Today»: «He launched this initiative in appreciation and gratitude to the late member of the participating sports team, and in fulfillment of his memory, and to encourage the team members to achieve the desired victory».

Al-Shehhi explained that he “trained members of the Ras Al Khaimah Police Sports Team on the use of civil defense tools and the way to wear firefighters’ clothing, and the name of the deceased was among them. ”

He added, "The news of the death of First Lieutenant Sheikh Saqr bin Tariq bin Kayed Al Qasimi has shocked the team, as it is one of the distinguished youth in fitness, and he holds a number of sports awards and was a partner with them in all sports activities of the police."

He stressed that «the team received great encouragement from the late mother, who commended his efforts in the championship».

For his part, Major Maj. Sheikh Abdullah bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Head of Sports and Social Activities, explained that “the team, consisting of 10 members of the Ras Al Khaimah Police, has made a great effort to fulfill the late wish to win the championship”, pointing out that “the team dedicated its victory to the memory of the late And, next week, he will organize a visit to his family to gift the cup.
