The center, the second largest party in the Finnish government, held crisis meetings on Monday, with great media attention. At first it was clear that the parliamentary group lacked confidence in Prime Minister Rinne, and then the party board reached the same conclusion.

- We have strong confidence in the coalition government and the government program, but our confidence has faltered to the government's ability to act. We hope that the Social Democrats will restore it, says Center Leader Katri Kulmuni ahead of a press conference following the crisis meetings, reports Finnish media.

The lack of trust applies to an individual, according to Kulmuni. Yle notes that she repeatedly failed to answer the question of whether the party demands the resignation of the head of government. The Social Democrats hold their own crisis meeting on Monday evening.

Lower pay for postal workers

The political crisis stems from a labor dispute at the Finnish post office, Posti, where 700 parcel sorters were transferred to a subsidiary with another collective agreement where some of them received lower salaries.

Responsible Minister Sirpa Paatero, who, like the Prime Minister, represents the Social Democrats (SDP), resigned last week. She had defended the mail's handling of those package sorts. However, criticism has remained against Prime Minister Antti Rinne and his handling of the case. Among other things, he is accused of lying about the issue in Parliament.

Rinne himself has criticized Posti, saying that the state-owned company acted in violation of the directives of the government. It denies the company's management.

The Finnish government is based on a broad coalition between the SDP, the Center Party Center, the Green Party, the Left Federation and the Swedish People's Party - here presented in order of magnitude.
