November 28, 2019. US President Donald Trump made a surprise visit to US troops in Afghanistan on Thanksgiving Day.

Trump, who was at his home in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, for the Thanksgiving festival, arrived at the Bagram base.

This is his first visit to Afghanistan, where at least 15,000 US and NATO soldiers are located, and he falls into a moment of stalemate in peace negotiations that also involve the Afghan government and the Taliban leadership.

The visit also falls at a time of tension between the White House on the one hand and the Pentagon and armed forces on the other.
