- With the efforts we have made so far, we will not reach the goal. We will be on the finish line but will not reach all the way forward, says municipal councilor Muharrem Demirok (C).

So far, total emissions have decreased by 25 percent per inhabitant from 2009 to 2017.

Looking ahead to 2025, among other things, it aims to reduce emissions and streamline transport by 22 per cent. The municipality also wants to increase solar energy production, increase the amount of wind power produced and implement energy efficiency improvements in industry and the household sector.

The efforts are not enough

Despite these and several other measures, it will not be enough to reach the goal of 2025.

- We have to increase the pace further. Perhaps the most important thing at this stage is to invite the people of Linköping and civil society much more. Now we have to do this together because it's our common future we're talking about, ”says Muharrem Demirok (C).

The environmental leader's group leader Rebecka Hovenberg agrees that it will be difficult to reach the goal. She also believes that the decision of the governing body to invest on the transport side makes it even more difficult.

- What I'm worried about, above all, is the policy they have for the transport side where we see that they are vigorously expanding for car traffic. It will make it even more difficult to reach the goal, ”she says.
