The proportion of female corporate executives within Swedish limited companies, with a turnover of at least SEK 500,000, is few. According to an analysis from the organization Entrepreneurs, only 18 percent are women.

- I'm not surprised, unfortunately, it has looked like this for a very long time. We got a similar result when we did the same survey three years ago, ”says Lina Skandevall at the Entrepreneurs.

She has run her own company for 15 years.

- Although I am a brave person I would have needed a kick in the back myself. There must be role models and encouragement from many quarters and seeing and hearing only men becomes difficult, says Lina Skandevall.

More women among young people

The largest proportion of women can be found among young business executives who are under the age of 25, where 24 percent of business executives are women.

- Despite the improvement of the younger ones, development is going too slowly, says Lina Skandevall.

However, there is one industry where women are more than men: Hair & beauty care. There, almost 75 percent of business executives are women.

- I think it is because you start your own in an industry where you feel safe. Women also have high representativeness in health care, says Lina Skandevall.

Most commonly with a Lars

The most common names of Swedish business executives are Lars, Anders, Erik, Per and Johan. Only in 18th place is a female name: Maria.

- It just confirms the picture of this whole analysis, says Lina Skandevall.

Stockholm is the county that has the highest proportion of female business executives, a little more than 22 percent of business executives are women. The worst are Jönköping and Kronoberg, where 13 per cent and 14 per cent, respectively, of the managers are women.
