Instead of moving the household waste in the green bags to a biogas plant, it will now be thrown together with other garbage and residual waste - and become district heating and electricity.

The decision was made after analyzes of the sorting were done. In residential areas, where household waste will continue to be collected as usual, on average 95 per cent is pure food waste in the green bag. The corresponding figure for the municipality's apartment building is 50 percent. The decision means that people who live in the municipality's apartments for a period do not have to sort food waste separately.

The green bag will come back

But the idea is for the green bag to get into the apartments again. The hope from Hem is, after dialogue with the property owners, to put separate containers for the green bag in the refuse room. This way, anyone who wants to continue sorting the food waste can.

In the clip, Åsa Montan tells more about the reason for the decision and what it will mean.
