Households in Skellefteå and Umeå have long sorted their food waste, which was then shipped to Tuvan in Skellefteå to become biogas.
And last year, households in the hinterland also started sorting - and food waste increased by 550 tonnes.
The 60 - 70 tons a week that are now processed in the facility will be even more when the stores also have to sort out their food waste from packaging.
But there are still margins to receive everything according to Robert Vårstig, unit manager at Water and Waste.
- The plant is adapted for larger quantities, so we are happy that more is coming in.
Then maybe we can do more with the gas, he says.
