“We need an open and sincere dialogue of all interested parties to help resolve this situation, including a thorough study of the wide range of socio-economic problems underlying this crisis,” RIA Novosti quoted her as saying.

Bachelet urged protesters to hold demonstrations peacefully, and the government to work with all citizens to calm the situation.

She also expressed concern about the violence and destruction that accompanied the protests. In her opinion, all these facts should become “the subject of independent, impartial and transparent investigations”.

Earlier it became known that the death toll as a result of protests in Chile has increased to ten.

On October 20, it was reported that law enforcement officials in Chile detained 1,462 people during protests that swept across the country.
