Dubai's Roads Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the launch of a smart bus tire inspection initiative to enhance the safety and security of buses on roads, improve performance and improve quality by using best practices in bus maintenance.

Abdullah Al Mazmi, Director of Maintenance and Services at the Public Transport Corporation, said that the development and modernization of work methods related to the inspection and maintenance of buses comes within the framework of the Authority's keenness to keep pace with the interest of the Government of Dubai in the use of innovative methods in all areas of work.

He added that the use of intelligent system in the inspection and evaluation of tires contributes to reduce the cancellation of trips, because of bus crashes on the road, and to enhance the safety of buses, and maintain the required air pressure in the tires continuously, and prolong the life of tires by following the validity of, and reduce the working hours required to examine The bus sector is considered one of the most important mass transportation systems in the transportation network in the Authority.

Al Mazmi explained that the bus is driven with a smart device that allows the sensors to measure the air pressure and the depth of the inscription of all bus tires, and by analyzing this data through specialized algorithms, a comprehensive report is created that provides the required information regarding the validity of the tires, and send it via email.

He added that the device verifies the validity of tires within 20 seconds, where it appears on the screen in front of the driver «green smiley face», which means the validity of the bus for the trip, and in the opposite case «sad red face» to be directed to the need to maintain tires, pointing out that the device was installed in Jebel Ali Station, where bus crashes on the road was down 58% from May to the end of July, compared to the same period last year.
