The Ministry of Finance has initiated since Wednesday and in the middle of the electoral campaign a financial rescue operation to more than 500 indebted municipalities. According to an official statement, "the deadline has been opened today for municipalities that are in financial risk to submit their applications to take advantage of various support measures."

It is about favoring the grouping of debts and improving conditions by more than 500 million euros to ease their accounts. The acting Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, thus activates an agreement announced on March 14 by the Delegate Commission of the Government for Economic Affairs to help "local entities in a more delicate situation" and that, according to the ministry, does not It had been launched so far.

"From today until October 22, municipalities can request improvements in the financial conditions of loans linked to the Fund for Financing Local Entities," said the statement.

The Treasury also notes that "the measures that may be eligible for this week include that all loans formalized from the compartments of the Fund for Financing to Local Entities will be grouped into a single loan, improving financial conditions in the repayment periods and of lack. "

In his opinion, "this measure benefits 556 municipalities" and "the debt affected amounts to 5,459.7 million (84% of the total) and will have a two-year grace period (2020 and 2021). Thus, these municipalities may generate savings during the two years amounting to 549.22 million euros, "the ministry said in its statement.

For those who, among those municipalities, have a worse situation, there are more facilities. "In these cases, loans grouped into a single loan will see the repayment period increased by 10 years. This measure is voluntary and may benefit 80 municipalities, with a live debt of 2,203.21 million euros," says the release.
