CNN: US announces withdrawal from Open Skies Treaty

Earlier, the US House of Representatives expressed concern that the administration is “considering withdrawing from the Open Skies Treaty.”

As the Congress noted, the treaty enables the United States and its "allies and partners in Europe to monitor military movements in Russia."

Military expert Alexei Leonkov in an interview with the FAN commented on a possible US withdrawal from this agreement.

The Open Skies Treaty established the regime of unarmed observation flights over the territories of the signatory states.

In particular, the document defines quotas for observation flights, notification of points of entry, technical details and inspection of observation equipment.
