In Kosovo, voters sounded the hour of change on Sunday (October 6th), putting the opposition ahead in the legislative elections and inflicting a heavy defeat on former KLA leaders after a decade of power.

The clean-up wind that has been blowing in Kosovo since last summer has finally defeated the ruling coalition. " We accept the verdict of the people. The PDK goes into opposition, "said the leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo shortly before 23:00, the evening of early parliamentary elections for which 1.9 million voters were called to the polls.

Two opposition parties are in the lead: the LDK, the Democratic League of Kosovo, a center-right formation led by a 37-year-old lawyer, Vjosa Osmani, newcomer to politics, and Vetëvendosje (Self-determination), the left-wing sovereignist movement founded by Albin Kurti, who now stands as a social democrat. These two parties are given side by side, reports our correspondent in the region, Simon Rico .

After the counting of three quarters of the votes, the left-wing ruling party Self-determination with 26.04% and the Democratic League of Kosovo with 25.21%, were ahead of the two main parties of the ruling coalition, the KDP (21.18% ) and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (11.67%). An irreversible advance.

Kosovar voters, who have mobilized slightly more than in the last two votes, have chosen to punish two decades of corruption and economic stagnation and to put new heads in power. It is therefore a historic setback for the KLA elders, the Albanian guerrillas, who have suffered the exasperation of the population.

Several irregularities were noted by the Electoral Commission and international observers, but these incidents, described as minor, would not be likely to call into question the conformity of the process with international standards. The final results are not expected before Monday morning, as the scores of the two leading parties seem tight.
