Andy Murray celebrated his return to Wimbledon on Thursday with a victory with his partner Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the first round of the doubles tournament.

The Franco-British duo beat in four sets the pair composed of French Ugo Humbert and Romanian Marius Copil, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-0.

"It was great, but I was nervous at first, it was better then the crowd pushed us and everything was in our direction as the game progressed, we became more comfortable "We're getting better at it, and hopefully we'll get better again," Murray said, as both players could only train together once.

"It's the first time we played together, it was not easy, I agree, the more advanced the match, the more we looked like a team," said the Frenchman.

Murray, paired with Spaniard Feliciano Lopez, had made a remarkable comeback by winning the doubles Queen's grass tournament at the end of June.

The 32-year-old Scotsman, winner of three Grand Slam tournaments, made his return to the London tournament after six months of absence following a hip operation.

The former world No.1 has not set a date yet for a return to singles, but he hinted he could "potentially" replay alone at the US Open in late August.

The Briton will also play the first round of mixed doubles with American legend Serena Williams on Friday.
