Iran urged to release tanker detained in Gibraltar

“We demand the soonest release of the tanker mentioned,” RIA Novosti reports.

Earlier, the British Ambassador to Tehran, Robert Macar, was summoned to the Iranian Foreign Ministry in connection with the incident with the detention of an Iranian oil tanker in the Straits of Gibraltar.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry noted that the detention of a tanker by British naval ships could lead to an escalation in the Persian Gulf.

It was noted that the tanker Grace 1 followed the flag of Panama. The ship was detained on suspicion of delivering oil to Syria in violation of sanctions.
