China News Service, Washington, April 4 (Reporter Chen Mengtong) US President Biden had a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu on the 4th about the situation in Gaza. Biden stressed that attacks on humanitarian workers were unacceptable and urged Israel to reach an agreement with Hamas as soon as possible to ensure the release of detained persons.

On the evening of April 1, local time, the Israeli army carried out an air strike on Deir al-Barah, a city in the central Gaza Strip, killing seven staff members of the charity organization "World Central Kitchen." The nationalities of the victims include British, Polish and Australian nationalities, while another person had dual nationality of the United States and Canada and a Palestinian.

According to a statement issued by the White House on the 4th, Biden stated during the call that the Israeli military’s attacks on humanitarian workers and the overall humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip were “unacceptable.”

Biden made it clear that Israel needs to announce and implement a series of specific, practical and measurable measures to reduce the harm caused by Israeli military operations to civilians in the Gaza Strip, alleviate the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, and ensure the safety of personnel delivering aid supplies. U.S. policy toward Gaza will depend on Israel's "immediate action based on these measures."

Biden emphasized that an immediate ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) is crucial to stabilizing and improving the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and protecting civilians. He urged Netanyahu to instruct Israeli negotiators to reach an agreement with Hamas as soon as possible to ensure the release of detained persons. (over)
