A mourning ceremony was held at Piskaryovskoye Cemetery in St. Petersburg to commemorate those who died during the siege of Leningrad. More than 40 thousand people came to lay flowers at the memorial, including veterans of the Great Patriotic War. The blockade lasted almost 900 days - from September 8, 1941 to January 27, 1944. About half a million people are buried in mass graves at Piskaryovsky cemetery.
