The Dubai Metro network is currently 75 kilometers long and will rise to 90 kilometers with the completion of the "2020 route". The network will accommodate more than 120 trains at peak hours. The total value of the contract, extended for two years, is about 680 million dirhams.

The Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Authority, Mattar Al Tayer, said that the choice of Serco to achieve high performance indicators in the operation of the Dubai Metro, where the rate of availability of service 99.9% and the accuracy of dates by 99.8%, in addition to record a record number of trips 204 million trips in 2018, pointing out that the provision of RTA to the latest technologies in the field of operation of trains, contributed to the achievement of these indicators.

He added: "Under the contract, the company will provide operation and maintenance services for the Dubai Metro with the red and green route, as well as the 2020 route, which includes extending the red line of the Expo site and all the assets of the metro system including trains, railways and stations, The contract also covers the operation and maintenance of the Dubai Metro tariff system, the collection and sale of NOOL tickets at the metro stations, the provision of jobs for nationals and their training and the achievement of a certain percentage of Emiratisation. The Authority is keen to train national cadres and transfer international expertise in the field of operation and maintenance of railway systems, which is one of the new areas in the region.

He explained that assigning the operation and maintenance of the Dubai Metro to specialized international companies is due to several reasons, the most important of which is that these tasks require expertise and know how to schedule the work of the metro lines, as well as experience in all the technical and mechanical systems that depend on the metro system in operation, The operation and maintenance of specialized companies reduces the cost of operation and maintenance of the metro by benefiting from the high efficiency of the performance of the private sector companies, especially in the provision of quality services at lower costs, And the supervision of major projects, explaining that the policy of assigning the operation and maintenance of the metro is implemented in a number of metro systems in the world, such as London and France Metro lines Australia, Korea, USA and others.
