Haruyuki Takahashi (78), former director of the Organizing Committee of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, was released on bail on the night of the 26th after being indicted four times for bribery in connection with the sponsorship contract of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.

His bail was set at 80 million yen and he was released from the Tokyo Detention Center where he had been held for over four months.

Defendant Haruyuki Takahashi (78), former director of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Organizing Committee, left the building of the Tokyo Detention House in a suit and tie before 7:30 pm on the 26th.

Former director Takahashi has been charged with receiving bribes totaling nearly 200 million yen from five companies, including major menswear company Aoki Holdings and major publishing company Kadokawa, in connection with sponsorship contracts for the tournament and review of licensed products. He has been indicted four times by the department.

The former director's bail request has been rejected twice so far, but the Tokyo District Court reconsidered the third request issued on the 23rd of this month and decided to grant bail on the 26th.

After hearing the opinions of both the prosecution and the defense, the court seems to have determined that there is little risk of him fleeing or destroying evidence even if he is granted bail.

According to the people involved, it is possible that the poor physical condition was also considered.

The former director paid bail of 80 million yen and was released from the Tokyo Detention Center where he had been detained for more than four months after being arrested in August.

The former director has consistently denied any wrongdoing in any of the cases since his arrest.
