News from our newspaper (intern reporter Chai Rong) The number of calls to the 120 emergency hotline in this city has increased sharply recently.

Yesterday, Chen Zhi, the chief physician of the Beijing Emergency Center, appealed to those with asymptomatic infection and mild symptoms of new coronary pneumonia not to call the 120 hotline, and please reserve a channel for the emergency hotline for critically ill patients.

According to Chen Zhi, the number of calls to the city's 120 emergency hotline has increased sharply in recent days, reaching more than 30,000 calls per day, far exceeding the capacity of the emergency hotline to receive calls.

"Currently, the resources for answering emergency calls and dispatching ambulances are very tight, causing some critically ill patients to encounter difficulties when calling 120 for emergency help."

At present, the 120 emergency hotline has also received a large number of inquiries from asymptomatic infected and mild patients about fever and other symptoms, as well as requests for the use of ambulances. These non-emergency calls have crowded out 120's emergency resources.

Chen Zhi reminded that in order to keep the emergency hotline open, asymptomatic and mild patients with new coronary pneumonia should not call the 120 hotline.

Asymptomatic patients with new coronary pneumonia should monitor their health at home, and patients with mild symptoms should seek medical treatment at nearby hospitals.

However, critically ill patients of all diseases, including those with severe cases of new coronary pneumonia, can directly call 120 for help if there is an emergency outside the hospital.

"120 is a special line for receiving emergency medical assistance, and its capacity is limited. Improper emergency calls will take up emergency resources, prevent emergency calls from being accepted in a timely manner, and indirectly cause other people's rights and interests to be violated." Chen Zhi Personal health management, medication adjustments for chronic diseases, daily outpatient medical guidance, and policy interpretation of the new crown epidemic are not within the business scope of the 120 emergency hotline, and relevant medical institutions or departments should be consulted.

When dialing the 120 emergency hotline, citizens should follow the 120 dispatcher's inquiry procedure to answer questions, and do not interrupt the dispatcher's inquiry sequence at will.

Keep the language short, clear, and unambiguous.

When the patient suffers from cardiac arrest and other critical situations, while waiting for the ambulance, please follow the guidance of the 120 dispatcher for on-site first aid operations.

After hanging up the phone, also must keep the phone unblocked.

Wait for the ambulance at the location with obvious geographical signs.

If the patient is involved in the new crown epidemic and other related situations, be sure to truthfully inform the 120 dispatcher and the medical staff on the ambulance.

Concealment of epidemic information will interfere with follow-up diagnosis and treatment work, which is not conducive to the health of patients themselves, and can easily lead to the risk of epidemic spread.

"Every citizen is the first person responsible for his own health, and also the most important maintainer of the 120 life hotline. Only by cherishing emergency resources together can we protect the lives and health of ourselves and others in emergencies." Chen Zhi said.
