Symbols of the Tricastin nuclear site, located in Drôme, the two air-cooling towers will be demolished.

Dedicated to the evacuation of water vapor from the cooling circuits of the uranium enrichment plant by gaseous diffusion, these two towers will gradually disappear from the local landscape between 2024 and 2028, reports

Le Dauphiné Libéré

.

The process used inside these two towers is no longer necessary today since the commissioning of the new Georges-Besse II unit.

This is the reason why their demolition was recorded.

25,000 tons of concrete

The proximity to the nuclear site and the dangers that this may represent require a special demolition technique, namely nibbling.

Concretely, a concrete clamp installed on a 123-meter-high crane will gradually destroy these two towers over a period of four years.

Then, the 25,000 tons of material can be reused, in particular for the backfilling of the roads, because this concrete has not had contact with radioactive materials.
