Antonio Hurtado teaches hydrogen and nuclear energy technology at the TU Dresden. In Poland, which currently has no nuclear power plants, six reactors are to be built in the next few years.

The next reactor in Slovakia is scheduled to go online in 2025. “I also wish we could rely exclusively on renewable energies,” says Hurtado. But that will be difficult: complete decarbonization by 2045 will hardly be possible without nuclear power. Hydrogen technologies will take a long time before they can contribute to the desired energy supply everywhere.
