Medical advice for diabetics during Ramadan

The family and community medicine consultant in the city, Dr. Akram Al-Hazmi, stressed the importance of eating the suhoor meal late, shortly before the dawn call, eating small amounts of food at breakfast, avoiding sweet or fatty foods, and also checking the blood sugar level several times during the fasting period and being careful to drink a lot. Of fluids free of sugar and caffeine to avoid dehydration, and exercising after evening prayer, in addition to changing the treatment regimen, which must be under the supervision of the attending physician;

Because not consulting exposes the patient to a severe drop or rise in blood sugar during the month of Ramadan.

He pointed out that the motor activity during the fasting period may cause a decrease in blood sugar, so it is advised for the diabetic patient when feeling the symptoms of hypoglycemia, which are (tremor, cold feeling, sweating, dizziness, sugar level less than 60 mg, or sugar percentage). 70 mg at the beginning of the day), he must break the fast immediately, but when the patient feels symptoms of high blood sugar (extreme urination, thirst, dehydration, the sugar level is more than 300 mg), he must break the fast immediately, and contact the attending physician and nutritionist to take advice .
